well, here's the thing. in some ways, for all of his 100+ years, white has lived a sheltered life. for most of his childhood, he saw little of the light—even before he was permanently deprived of it by becoming a deman.
and the demans, despite their arrogance, missed the sun so much that they created a false sky just to experience it again. it took lessa's gift of his one day under true daylight for white to realize even that wasn't comparable.
even so, artificial or not, here he's recreated some of the scenery he never got to experience in life, but remained bound by the limits of his own knowledge and imagination. seeing this is... actually kind of overwhelming—a reminder of the world that he was never able to live in—and it's making him a bit emotional.
and, well, white is terrible at hiding his emotions! as he just. kind of stares at everything.]
